Session timing for momentum marks in Sydney hours

Desk with laptop analytics and a notebook in soft daylight

The first thirty minutes after the ASX open often produce wide ranges that look like thrusts but settle into ranges by mid-morning. Mark candidates, then demand a follow-through bar before you elevate them to signals.

Lunch hours thin out. A lonely expansion bar with weak volume is usually not worth the same weight as a similar print at 11:00 when the book is still active. Adjust your volume filter by time of day rather than forcing one threshold all session.

Into the US crossover, correlated names can gap on external news. Treat those opens as context, not as completed signals, until local structure reforms. Momentum interpretation still belongs to the chart in front of you, not the headline feed.

In workshop drills we colour-code charts by session segment. Students quickly see which hours inflate their false-positive rate.
