Pullback failure as a momentum clue
Momentum is not only the explosive bar; it is also what happens when price tries to give back the move. A shallow pullback that fails to reach the prior swing often signals that sellers lack conviction.
Mark the thrust high or low first. Then watch how many bars the pullback needs and whether volume dries up. A failure that prints on lighter volume and turns within two to four bars is usually cleaner than a deep retest that spends a full session grinding.
Australian session gaps can distort this pattern. If the open leaps beyond your failure zone, wait for the first fifteen-minute structure before treating the mark as live. Overnight news is not a substitute for a completed pullback failure.
Bring two annotated failures and two that broke to class. Comparing them side by side trains the eye faster than another indicator overlay.
